CORNWALL has had a visit from yet another famous face.
Charlie Cooper, co-writer and star from the hit BBC Three comedy ‘This Country’, visited Cornwall recently to walk the Smuggler’s Way, from Boscastle to Looe.
This Country is a documentary-style comedy which follows the antics of cousins ‘Kurtan’ and Kerry Mucklowe, played by Charlie and his sister Daisy-May Cooper, in a small rural village in the Cotswolds. Episode one of the third series aired on Monday, February 17.
On Tuesday, March 3, Charlie visited Jamaica Inn with his travelling partner Tom and settled into room five, which is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young girl named ‘Hannah’.
The owner of Jamaica Inn, Allen Jackson, was delighted that the This Country star chose to stay at the infamous Cornish inn.
He told the Post: “I don’t think the staff really woke up to him being here until the morning. We had a full hotel that night, so it wasn’t obvious that he was there.
“Charlie was very nice — he and Tom were travelling to Liskeard when they left, as they are walking the Smuggler’s Way. I went out and had a chat with him about it all.
“I think there was a lot of interest from some of the younger guests, and he wasn’t bothered by the guests, they were really nice.”
Jamaica Inn has its fair share of famous guests and visitors, and even appeared on television a few weeks ago.
Maddie Hanson, from Launceston, was at Jamaica Inn at the time of Charlie and Tom’s stay, and jumped at the chance to ask the comedy actor for a ‘selfie’.
