LEWANNICK Amateur Dramatic Society last week performed their 60th annual pantomime in the village hall.

The panto 'The Sword in the Stone' was very loosely adapted from the original story of King Arthur and Excalibur by Jenny Eno, who also directed it.

The Kingdom of Harnalot was under threat from The Witches of Castick who stole the Holy Grail and Excalibur from Dozmary Pool. Merlin, who was powerless without the Holy Grail, enlisted the help of Dame Penny Gillam to return them and find the rightful King Arthur.

The Witches travelled to Scotland and teamed up with the vicious Clan McTavish who travelled south to fight a battle with the brave English Army. Excalibur was recovered and King Arthur was crowned just in time to lead his men to victory in a battle centred around a Portaloo in the fields of Glastonbury. The Grail was returned to Merlin, and the Witches got their just desserts.

The tale was narrated by Jesters Mo and Minnet who provided an ever changing comedy routine. Rousing songs, synchronised swimmers, morris dancing and lots of innuendo completed this story of medieval mayhem.

Backstage team (scenery, costumes, props, makeup, lighting, music and scene changing) — David Eno, Jenny Eno, Margo Pridham, Bridget Thomas, Larry Rowse, Lizzy, Pete and Lyn Grant, Ian Burns, Chris and Barry Spooner, Marina Stenning, Sarah Sandercock, Elaine Randall, Heather Kingdom and Terry Jasper.
