The Post is grateful to Lucy Garland of Lezant, who grew up at St Stephen’s in Launceston, for supplying this photograph of both sides of a token she found whilst clearing out some of her late father’s things.
colin Beale was a blacksmith for the town at the Railway Forge and later at Wooda Forge. He sadly passed away last year and whilst sorting through his things Lucy discovered this token.
The battle of the multi-storey car park is infamous in Launceston and many will remember the saga well. The token says ‘People V Town Council Plans - No Multi Storey’ and ‘Launceston Sheep Market 1992-93’ on the reverse. However, Lucy does not know the origin or meaning of this token and how it came to be in her father’s possession.
