A consultation has been launched on proposals to bring a Tesco supermarket to Camelford.
The supermarket giant has revealed that plans are underway to build a new supermarket on Victoria Road in the town.
At present, the only supermarket within Camelford is a Co-Op store, with the nearest Tesco store being located in Wadebridge.
In literature sent to local stakeholders, Tesco has confirmed the news saying: "Tesco is holding a public consultation to share with local residents and businesses our plans for a new supermarket on land at Victoria Road in Camelford.
"The events will give residents the opportunity to view more details of the plans, speak to the project team and ask any questions we may have before we submit plans to Cornwall Council."
Consultation events will be held on July 14, between 2 pm and 7.30 pm at the Camelford Methodist Church, on July 15 between 10 am and 2 pm at Camelford Leisure Centre and on July 18 between 7 pm and 8.30pm online at www.tesco-camelford-consultation.co.uk
The supermarket giant has also revealed why it wants to come to Camelford, on land which had been previously granted planning permission in 2013 for a mixed use development, including a supermarket.
It added: "Camelford has a range of amenities, but there is not a supermarket in the town, meaning residents need to travel to do a larger food shop: a 22-mile round trip to Wadebridge or 27-mile round trip to Bodmin.
"A new supermarket a few minutes’ walk from the town would benefit the town and its residents, providing more choice, reducing journeys on the roads and creating new jobs in the town.
"This store would be a significant investment into the local economy and create around 100 jobs for the local community.
