A musical maestro who has inspired countless pupils has enjoyed one of the high notes of his career.

More than 70 former students of Paul Rapi came from all over the UK on Thursday to join the Greenhill Orchestra in its final concert under his baton on home ground.

Current Tenby Mayor, Mr. Rapi is retiring after 27 years as head of Greenhill School's music department. The ex-pupils' appearance had been kept secret from their past teacher.

The concert, at the De Valence Pavilion, concluded with the audience and orchestra combining in 'Thank you for the Music'.

Head teacher Jan Kingston said: "It is a fabulous role that you have played in so many lives."

Tenby councillors also sung the praises of the concert held.

"The night turned out to be an absolutely fabulous occasion and one of the best night's we've held here at the De Valence," Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown told her colleagues at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council.

"It was the best send-off a teacher has had in the town for many a year," agreed Clr. Trevor Hallett.
