A Tenby teenager who collapsed while running the Swansea Half Marathon for charity at the weekend is on the mend and recovering his family have said.

Sporty seventeen-year-old Max Brewster, a pupil at Greenhill School, was taken to Morriston Hospital where he was admitted to intensive care and put on life support, but has since come round, after being taken unwell at the 10-mile marker of the JCP Swansea Half Marathon on Sunday.

Max (pictured) was running the event in memory of his grandfather, well-known former Tenby teacher Alun Rees, of New Hedges, who passed away last year.

He was raising money for the Paul Sartori Hospice at Home service in Tenby, while his aunt, Nicola Bowen, who was running alongside him, had also set herself the challenge of running 100 miles in sponsored races in 2015 for the charity, in her father's memory.

The family of Max have since praised the race organisers for their response.

"The event organisers were incredible, they were absolutely faultless," said Nicola.

"They couldn't have done enough. As a family we are so grateful for their speedy response.

"It was a fantastic event and Max's collapse was something they could not have predicted. He was very ill, but he's very fit otherwise," she continued.

The race organisers have since confirmed their commitment to the health and well-being of the runners and have continued to provide support to Max and his family, checking that he is recovering well.

On his fundraising page, Max, who had signed up to run in the Long Course Half Marathon and Tenby 10K, as well as hike Pen-y-Fan and climb the summit of Snowdon, all for Paul Sartori, said he would like to give something back to the charity for all their hard work, calling his grandfather 'bampy' an "inspiration" to him.

Since being taking ill, well wishes and donations have flooded in to Max's fundraising page at http://www.justgiving.com/Max-Brewster">www.justgiving.com/Max-Brewster, helping him smash his £200 target to raise more than £1,400 so far.

Nicola's fundraising page at http://www.justgiving.com/Nicola-Bowen2">www.justgiving.com/Nicola-Bowen2 has also seen her almost double her target of raising £1,000 for Paul Sartori.

"A huge thank you goes to everyone for all their support, good wishes and donations. We are so so grateful to everyone," said Max's mother, Catrin Rees.
