Sir, I'm sure I wasn't alone last week in feeling very sad to see the headline 'Sunnybank up for sale' on the front page of the Narberth and Whitland Observer. For over 50 years, Sunnybank Residential Home had been at the heart of the Narberth community providing a permanent home for many and much needed respite and meals on wheels too. We are told by councillors and politicians alike that there is a shortage of affordable housing, but also we are an ageing population who may require a degree of 'looking after' in our later years. I sincerely hope that this will not be a case of not appreciating what you have got until it is gone. Twelve months ago, I was part of the team who saw Sunnybank through its final days; it was a difficult time for us all and we appreciated the support of the local community and in particular Rev. Chris Rees and the members of the Baptist Chapel who held a service of thanksgiving for Sunnybank. This year, on June 23, we are having a Sunnybank staff reunion at the Plas Hyfryd Hotel, Narberth. It will be an informal buffet lunch and hopefully an opportunity for staff to chat and reflect on the time that Sunnybank was a special part of their lives. Anyone wishing to attend, please get in touch.
