IT was a successful first ever tractor run for Lewdown Young Farmers’ Club on Sunday, with 65 tractors taking part and £1,001 raised.

Lewdown local, comedian Jethro was on hand to wave the tractors off from the village.

The event was held to raise funds for Devon Air Ambulance and Lewdown helipad.

It is hoped plans can go ahead for a helipad at the cricket pitch as one of Devon Air Ambulance’s network of community night-time landing sites.

YFC secretary Becky Dennis said: “It went really well. The boys were on about doing a tractor run last year, but being boys they didn’t get around to organising it!

“Every year we raise money for different charities. We wrote a list of charities and a lot of members wanted to raise money for Devon Air Ambulance. We would like to support them because it’s so vital.”

It is hoped Lewdown YFC’s tractor run can now become an annual event. The club’s next charity event will be an Easter bingo at Lewdown village hall on March 19, details on Facebook or posters in the local area.
