Students at Windmill Hill Academy have been showing off their climbing skills with the opening of the Playground Climber.
Recently, the school’s ‘School Forum Pupil Parliament’ group were very pleased to announce that the ‘Playground Climber’ was officially open for use.
The school has recently had a climbing structure built to go on their school playground. The structure was built by a very reputable company called Pentagon Play. The school has used Pentagon Play on two previous occasions and are always very happy with their work as they always provide a professional service and it is completed to a high standard. They are also fantastic with the children by allowing them to watch the work being completed and answering the many questions they have.
“At Windmill Hill Academy, each child is part of a Pupil Parliament group,” Mrs Bassett, head of school, explained. “They choose which group they would like to be on each year.
“Groups include an outdoor group, eco, health and wellbeing, communities and charities, Visible Learning, Rights Respecting and School Forum.
“Each group creates an action plan for the year and the School Forum group identified a need for more active equipment in the playground for the children to use. They listened to the views of all the children at school and voted on the type of equipment and the location.”
As well as this, the children also had a hand in securing funding, helping Mrs Bassett write the application to the National Lottery in order to fund the project.
A couple of months later, they were very pleased to find out that they had been awarded the funding. Quickly the works were booked in and the project was completed.
