A music student from Halwill has been selected to represent Cornwall in the Miss England semi-finals.
Twenty-year-old Abby Knight is currently living and studying in Falmouth away from her family home in Halwill while she completes her university degree in music.
A keen musician and composer, Abby spends her days composing music for documentaries and nature clips as well as playing the piano.
Having first gained an interest in modelling after picking up a part time job for a photographer in London Abby felt encouraged to send in an application to Miss England.
Abby explains: “I went through a voting process and was selected by the judges after an interview to go into the semi-finals.
“This is the first pageant I’ve entered, so have no experience apart from modelling part time!”
As part of the entry requirements, Abby will have to raise money for a charity. She has chosen to support the Papyrus charity who help young people with suicide prevention schemes.
“I have done a lot of volunteering abroad in the past and it’s something I really enjoy so I would love to get more people involved! I have also had to create a PowerPoint about my hometown and explain why it is so amazing and everything it has to offer” she continued.
The semi-final will take place in Viva Blackpool on April 7, 2024. During the event, one person from each category will win a place at the finals, this will include a catwalk, a discussion on the money raised for charity and other various elements. Abby also plans to enter the talent round to show off her musical skills.
Abby continued: “I am most looking forward to raising money for charity and getting people involved with exciting events! I am excited for the challenge and to represent my county and my passions such as music.”
So far, Abby plans to raise the money by completing a charity walk along the Cornish coastline and through social media but aims to plan more before April. She would also like to set up a live music night with bands from Falmouth University.
“I will be representing Cornwall by raising as much funds as possible to claim the regional title, and England by doing everything I can to support charities, businesses and people!”
