MEL Stride has held the Central Devon seat for the Conservatives with an increased majority. When the result was declared his share of the vote was 28,436 compared with 27,737 in 2010. UKIP's John Conway came second with 7,171 votes, followed by Labour's Lynne Richards on 6,985.
The Liberal Democrats tumbled from second choice in 2010 to 4th place this time around, with Alex White picking up 6,643 votes. At the 2010 election the party picked up 18,507 votes in the constituency.
The Green Party's Andy Williamson received 4,866 votes and independent candidate Arthur Price picked up 347 votes.
Mr Stride thanked his wife Michelle 'for all her love and support, not just during this campaign but for five long years as your member of parliament prior to that'.
