THE run of national success for St Petroc’s School in Bude keeps on coming at the moment!
Following on from their national ISA award last week, the school was delighted to appear in the Times Top 100 independent prep schools for the first time in its history!
The table was based on pupils’ SATs results from 2015 and took into account the reading, writing and maths elements of the SATs, focusing on Level 5 scores or above — with 82% in reading and 62% in maths, meaning that St Petroc’s was the highest performing independent or state primary school in Cornwall.
Headmaster of St Petroc’s, Dan Thornburn, said: “We are clearly thrilled to have made it into such a prestigious league table and it confirms what we already knew about our outstanding results from the summer of 2015.
“To also see that we have out-performed all the primary schools in Cornwall is also wonderful news. Of course league tables don’t tell the whole story about a school and there are plenty of other qualities I would look for first before checking out its league place.
“That said, what this result does highlight is the fact that as well as delivering amazing opportunities for sport, music, drama and all the other multitude of activities available to our pupils, we are more than delivering on the academic front too! I’m hugely proud of the pupils and staff throughout the school who have worked so hard to achieve this excellent accolade!”
What made the result even more impressive is the fact that St Petroc’s is an entirely non-selective school. With over 1,100 independent prep schools in the country, to make it into the Times Top 100 alongside some of the most academically elite private schools in the land is no mean feat for a down to earth prep school in Bude.
