Sheryll Murray was first elected as the MP for South East Cornwall in 2010 and has won her seat ever since. This time around — being her fourth victory — has been her biggest majority, securing 20,971 votes (58.97% of the total).
MrsMurray was born in the village of Millbrook, South East Cornwall, where she went to school before continuing her secondary education at nearby Torpoint Comprehensive School.
Mrs Murray was a member of the governing body of the school for nine years. Mrs Murray lives in Millbrook with her husband Bob.
Before becoming an MP she worked for the NHS at a local doctors surgery. Mrs Murray has two grown up children. Her daughter Sally is an officer in HM Forces and her son Andrew works in marine electronics. Mrs Murray is proud of her South East Cornwall roots which can be traced back across many generations.
In Parliament, Mrs Murray worked in the departments of culture, media and sport, energy and climate change and environment, and food and rural affairs as a parliamentary private secretary. Mrs Murray was a member of the environment, food and rural affairs committee and served on the 1922 executive. Mrs Murray was the co-chairman of the ‘All Party Fisheries Group’. She has also steered two private members bill successfully through parliament namely the Marine Navigation Act 2013 and the Deep Sea Mining Act 2014.
Mrs Murray has offered her support for Brexit and has backed Boris Johnson in being able to deliver it.
