Tavernspite School has become the first in Pembrokeshire to receive a second Sustainable Schools Acorn Award.
The award is for schools who have held the first acorn for at least two years and who continue to protect the environment and learn about global issues.
To achieve their award, pupils at the South Pembrokeshire school have been learning about sustainability through an 'Improving the Environment' project, encouraging recycling of paper, taking part in a beach clean and learning about the threats to clean beaches.
Meanwhile, as part of a global citizenship project, they investigated different days of celebration such as World Literacy Day and World Disarmament Day using lessons produced by the United Nations, which were adapted for Pembrokeshire pupils.
The pupils also enjoyed finding out about issues affecting people in other parts of the world and hosted a second Fair Trade Football Cup whereby, as part of a larger project about Fair Trade, schools took part in a mini football tournament using Fair Trade footballs.
The school was presented with its award by Janie Pridham, sustainable schools officer for Pembrokeshire County Council, at a special assembly.
She said she was delighted to present them with the award which showed their continued commitment to learning about sustainability and global issues.
The Sustainable Schools Award scheme, unique to Pembrokeshire, recognises efforts to improve quality of life and the environment without damaging the planet for future generations.
