A SECOND man has been arrested after an alleged hit and run death of a pedestrian on the A380 in Newton Abbot on Sunday.

Police were called to the scene close to the junction with Aller Brake Road about 1.30am.

Shortly before they had received reports of a man walking in the road towards Kingskerswell.

On arrival officers found a 30-year-old man who had sustained fatal injuries after being involved in a collision with a vehicle that apparently had failed to stop.

Formal identification has yet to take place but next of kin have been informed.

The force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit carried out investigations at the scene, keeping the road closed for almost eight hours.

A 51-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He was interviewed in Torquay and has been bailed pending further enquiries until November 2.

On Monday afternoon police confirmed that a 58-year-old from Newton Abbot had also been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and was awaiting questioning in Torquay.
