Police are investigating the discovery of a woman's body in the sea off Tenby's North Beach.

Sixty-three-year-old Maryam Cooke from Newcastle Upon Tyne, who was on holiday in the town, was discovered at approximately 9.50 am on Monday.

Officers were initially treating her death as suspicious, but later changed their inquiries to unexplained.

HM Coroner has opened an inquest into the death.

Officers are appealing for witnesses who may have seen a lady matching the following description in the Tenby town area between 5.30 and 8.30 am on Monday.

She is described as white, early 60s, approximately 5'2 - 5'4' in height with grey hair. During Sunday evening, it is believed that she was wearing a green coat and was carrying a ruck-sack or similar holdall. It is also known that she was seen wearing a flowered blouse, black leggings, black 'UGG' style boots and black t-shirt under her blouse.
