It was a real honour to be unanimously reselected by North Cornwall Conservatives as their candidate for the next General Election, which will happen in 2024.

Over the past eight years, my office has actioned over 56,000 individual pieces of casework, with everything from housing to hospital appointments, and access to benefits covered.

For a very small team, this is a great success, and it is important to remember that behind every Member of Parliament is an equally dedicated team of staff who share the ethos of the MP and the love of the constituency.

When I bring people into my team, I tell them that the individual is at the heart of everything we do, and I have an expectation that as a team, we will go above and beyond what is expected for the people of North Cornwall. We work hard because the work we do has a direct impact on people’s lives.

My motivation and drive for North Cornwall is to make the constituency I grew up in a place where our children don’t have to leave for jobs and opportunities. Too many friends from my youth had to go up country for work and therefore I have campaigned so hard for better skills and training. Our world-class educational facilities at Callywith College and the opportunity to take medical and health care courses, then apply them at a brand-new Community Diagnostic Centre in Bodmin, where we now have CT, MRI, and Ultrasound services for the first time, is a great example of the vision I have for North Cornwall. This is what I will keep delivering as your Member of Parliament.

It has been a busy week in the House of Commons for me, but I have been able to visit several events in Westminster on behalf of constituents. Pubs and breweries in North Cornwall support 2719 jobs and contribute £63.5-million to the local economy so it was good to meet directly with the Chief Executive of the British Beer and Pub Association.

Pubs are at the heart of communities across North Cornwall, throughout the pandemic they demonstrated great resilience and innovation, however, the aftershock of the pandemic combined with the energy price and cost of living crises means many pubs remain at risk. That is why I am supporting the Long Live the Local campaign and calling on the Chancellor to consider reducing the burden of taxation on pubs and brewers.
