THE Marhamchurch Primary School gymnastics team won more medals than ever at this year’s North Devon Schools Gymnastics competition.

The squad of 37 gymnasts travelled up to Falcons Gymnastics Academy in Barnstaple recently to compete alongside hundreds of other gymnasts.

Children, parents and staff from Marhamchurch have been celebrating all of the success that the team had at the event, including an amazing three individual medals and six team medals, two of which were gold.

The team’s coach, Mrs Paton, said: “I am incredibly proud of all our gymnasts — they have all trained so hard for this competition. It is great for our school to have finally won a team gold — and to do it twice in one year feels even better!”

The two teams to win gold medals were the under seven girls — Freya Luxton, Coco Arthur, Emily Hooker and Mia Flynn, who won an individual silver medal; and the under eleven girls — Kelsi Heywood, Beth Horrell, Tilly Rice, Phoebe Haden and Emily Colwill, who also won an individual silver medal.

The school gymnastics club is looking forward to a busy summer term, with displays, festivals and competitions planned.

Congratulations have been extended to all involved.
