A Cornwall-wide charity is appealing for help with a significant event to raise funds for its life-saving and life-changing services.
The Samaritans of Cornwall at Truro is to hold an Anniversary Ball and Charity Auction on Saturday, November 11, at the Eden Project.
The charity is appealing for experiences and items to make its Grand Charity Auction a success at the event, in return for a mention in the programme and thanks on the night, as well as social media mentions in the lead up.
Sue Wilkins, director of Cornwall Samaritans explains the significance of the event: “Cornwall Samaritans achieved its 50th anniversary during 2019. The COVID pandemic meant we could not hold a gathering to mark the occasion, but it happens that it is now 75 years since the UK charity itself was established. To mark both occasions, celebrate the wonderful achievements of our hundreds of volunteers, and raise much needed funds we are organising our Ball and Auction with some tickets still available. We now need auction prizes to make the event a success.”
As well as the Grand Charity Auction, after a sumptuous three course meal, guests will be addressed first by Rick Stein and then Tim Owen, one of the ‘3 Dads Walking’.
The monies raised will assist the much-needed redevelopment of Cornwall Samaritan’s premises in Truro to make the building more accessible, from where the charity’s volunteers operate every day of the year, offering 24/7 support to those struggling to cope, needing someone to listen without judgement or pressure, or experiencing suicidal thoughts.
