DUE to the ongoing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, the decision has been taken to once again postpone the Ruby Run.
The Ruby Run, organised by Hatherleigh Rotary Club, usually follows a route between the towns of Holsworthy and Hatherleigh, with the start and finish points alternating from year to year. It is a staple in the local calendar, with the two towns often coming out in force to cheer on the participants.
However, to ensure everyone’s safety, the Ruby Run team has taken the difficult decision to once again postpone this family event.
A Hatherleigh Rotary Club spokesperson said: “On behalf of the Ruby Run team, I would like to thank everyone who entered for the 2020 run (which did not happen because of COVID-19) and those who are thinking of entering for 2021.
“There has been a lot of uncertainty concerning the continuing crisis and how long it will last. As you might expect, we have been monitoring the situation closely as we should now be completing some of the tasks to make the Ruby Run happen. It is now clear, however, that: the medical situation is likely to last for many months yet, certainly past the date that was set for the Ruby Run in June; We understand that the present control measures will probably still be in place in early June.
“We are sorry that, for these reasons, and in the interests of clarity, it is now appropriate to cancel the 2021 run and wait until next year before organising the next one.
“To those who have entered, we hope that you will agree to our holding your booking fee over until next year’s race in 2022. If you would prefer to donate your fee to a Rotary sponsored charity or would like a refund, please let us know via the Ruby Run website.”
