Visitors to the highly successful first Ruby Art Expo, held last month in Holsworthy's Memorial Hall, were invited to nominate an artist for the Ruby Art Award. The votes have now been counted and the name of the winner has been announced.
The winner was sculptor, Jo Seccombe of Northlew, who exhibited five metal sculptures: 'Fern', a horse in iron resin, 'Cygnet Sleeping', 'Pig Nap' and 'Calf Sleeping', all in bronze resin and 'Otter' in mixed resins.
Though brought up in Ireland, since the age of 12 Jo has lived on the edge of Dartmoor, surrounded by horses, dogs and sheep. Her love and affinity with animals and an equestrian career have given her a keen eye for detail, movement and form.
The presentation of the award took place last Monday at Durdon Farm where Jo lives with her husband and sons and has her studio.
