Members of Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club took part in the Rotary Ride in aid of Prostrate Cymru on Father's Day.

The ride started at the Bloomfield Community Centre, Narberth, and the club was extremely pleased to have one of the trustees of Prostate Cancer Cymru and fellow Rotarian John Daniels from Haverfordwest Rotary Club attend the event.

They were also delighted to have Rotarian Paul Harries from the Pembroke Club, formerly from Narberth, support the event.

The club would personally like to thank Rotarians David Hayward, who organised the 25-mile route, Bob and Barbara Rumbold for assisting at the registration, John Sleigh for driving the sag wagon, kindly donated for the day by Gravell's, Narberth and Huw and Mary Adams for marshalling.

The event finished at the Cresselly Arms, Cresswell Quay, for a fantastic BBQ, thanks to Colin Evans.

The aim of the ride was to raise money and awareness of prostate cancer, a disease that currently affects one in eight men during their lifetime, with over 300,000 men in the UK currently living with the disease.

In Wales, prostate cancer is the most common cancer, with 2,550 men diagnosed each year and over 500 deaths. One man in every eight will be diagnosed with the disease, with the risk increasing to one in three if there is a family history. The aim of Prostate Cymru is to ensure that all men in Wales have equal access to tests, treatments, knowledge and support.

"We would encourage all men to go to their GP to have a simple PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) blood test to have peace of mind," said a spokesperson. "We hope by holding this event it will raise awareness and in some way help to cut down the cases of prostate cancer."
