SHEBBEAR College students have been taking advantage of some unusually pleasant autumn weather in Snowdonia as they undertake a practice expedition for their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.
The group of Lower Sixth Form students have conquered a number of challenging scrambles including the ‘hair-raising’ Crib Goch ridge that leads up to the summit of Snowdon itself.
The trip marks the beginning of a busy winter of outdoor training at Shebbear and many of the participants will be part of one of the four teams the school hopes to enter for next year’s ‘Ten Tors Challenge’.
Headmaster Simon Weale said: “We are blessed in the South West with many wonderful and testing landscapes to explore, but our students were very keen to see how they coped out of their comfort zone in North Wales. They are a very impressive and resilient team.”
