A GROUP of Two Rivers residents are up in arms about the lack of parking in their area and a private ambulance is not helping matters.

Linda Brooks, of Hyde Bank Lane, in Newnham, said the ambulance which belongs to a neighbour has been causing disruption for those visiting residents in the area since last June.

She said: "It's an absolute nightmare. Our neighbour bought this private ambulance two years ago and since last year it has not been moved.

"The ambulance is so big it takes up the whole of the disabled bay which is within the turning area, and is leaving people visiting no choice but to park in front of my driveway and block me in.

"We've contacted Two Rivers Housing to see what can be done and if they can replace the grass verge with parking bays for the six bungalows, including the ambulance, which would free-up the turning area – but they haven't got back to us."

A spokesperson for Two Rivers Housing said: "We have visited the owner of the ambulance with the police and spoken to him about the matter but, as he is parking on a public road, the vehicle is roadworthy.

"It is not actually causing an obstruction and as he is not breaching any of the conditions of his tenancy agreement, there are no grounds for us to take any action.

"We are working with the residents to sort out the matter but, as a not-for-profit organisation, all of our expenditure is carefully considered to ensure it is of the best benefit for all of our tenants and communities."
