THE 35th Cornish Hospices’ Flower Festival held at the Delabole Methodist Church was visited by many people from the village, surrounding communities and holiday-makers.

Many people commented on the quality of the floral arrangements inspired by the theme ‘Remembering’.

Several conversations were sparked as people were caused to remember such things as childhood days, steam railways, the Delabole Regal Cinema, the First World War and the 70th anniversary of the NHS.

On entering the church visitors were confronted with a swathe of poppies, made and assembled by members of the Delabole community, to mark 100 years of the ending of the First World War, and an arrangement of dahlias as part of an arrangement to remind people of the village shows.

The festival was opened on Friday, August 3, by the Rev Bryan Ede, and concluded on the Sunday with a Songs of Praise led by Rev Ede and Rev Angela Cooper.

The gifts for the Cornish Hospices amounting to £673 were dedicated at the evening function.

Many of those involved in organising the event commented that it had been a busy but enjoyable weekend.
