A PROPOSED new location for a Kingsteignton post office will result in longer opening hours.
The Post Office is proposing to relocate Exeter Road post office to a new convenience store at 33 Ley Lane, where it would open as a modern open-plan 'local' branch.
Post Office 'local' is a new style of office, operating from an open-plan till at a shop counter instead of a separate screened counter.
Services in Kingsteignton would be provided throughout shop opening hours, Monday to Sunday, from 6am to 10pm.
The proposed location is approximately half-a-mile from the current Exeter Road post office.
A spokesman for the Post Office said: 'We've received an application from a potential new operator with nearby suitable premises who wishes to operate the service on our behalf into their convenience store. This would be with the current postmaster's agreement.'
Post Office regional manager Julia Marwood added: 'We understand how important having a post office is to residents in the area of Kingsteignton and we are confident that this new modern service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
'This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.'
The Post Office is now inviting Kingsteignton customers and interested parties to give their comments and feedback on the move in a six-week public consultation. The consultation will close on August 6.
