HOLSWORTHY Army Cadet Lance Corporal Rebecca Westley, aged 17, has passed the ACF Senior Cadet Instructors Course. The week long course was held at Okehampton camp and was attended by cadets from Devon, Bristol and Cornwall. The course focuses on the ability of young people to train their peers in a variety of subjects including fieldcraft, expedition skills and drill with the participants having to produce lesson plans and deliver thirty minute lessons. The highlight of the week was a 24 hour military exercise with the cadets demonstrating leadership and team skills during various scenarios and challenges on the Dartmoor training area. Rebecca said: "It was a great course, and we developed good skills and confidence from it. I'd recommend it to any cadets who have the opportunity to attend." Holsworthy Army Cadets parade Mondays from 7 to 9pm at the community college and offers many opportunities to young people aged 12 to 18.
