The first event of Teignmouth Regatta took place with the annual Barham Cup. A rowing race in punt dinghies over four-and-a-half miles that starts off Teignmouth fish quay and finished at Newton town quay.
A wet start due to rain showers, the race started in a strong flooding tide, which caused two boats to clash. Luckily they were soon able to free themselves and catch up with the pack. Another punt was pushed into the docks by the spring tide and, while the safety boats were on hand, the rowers managed to recover themselves and make good progress.
