Colleagues at a building society branch in Tenby will be brewing up to mark a successful year of fundraising for Marie Curie.
Yorkshire Building Society's Hour of Need campaign has been celebrating its first birthday with the news that it has clocked up £300,000 in its first year.
The campaign was launched in June 2014 and has raised enough to support 15,000 hours of Marie Curie nursing in just 12 months. Every £20 raised by the Society funds one hour of Marie Curie nursing care.
Thanks to the efforts of colleagues and the support of customers and members of the public in Tenby, the branch has collected over £1,800 for the charity.
The tea party at Yorkshire Building Society, on Tudor Square, is taking place today (Friday), with colleagues serving cream teas to customers. Basil, the branch's four-legged mascot, will be making a special guest appearance between 1 and 3 pm.
Sian Rees, manager of the Tenby branch of Yorkshire Building Society, said: "The Hour of Need campaign is having a real impact on terminally ill people and their families in providing Marie Curie nursing support. This is the Society's most successful ever national fundraising campaign and this is all thanks to the commitment that our colleagues and members have shown in helping to raise £300,000 for Marie Curie."
Colleagues at the branch are also holding a quiz and book sale as part of the event.
The tea party is being backed by the Cream Tea Society and jam-maker Tiptree and Cornish clotted cream manufacturer Rodda's, who have very generously donated 15,000 portions of strawberry jam and clotted cream to the Society's 230 branches to help celebrate the success of the fundraising.
The Society's tea party will join others taking place across the country as part of Marie Curie's Blooming Great Tea Party fundraising.
To celebrate the first anniversary Yorkshire Building Society colleagues will also be attempting to set a new Guinness World Records title for the largest cream tea party in multiple venues in aid of Marie Curie.
