THE 28th annual Holsworthy Vintage Vehicle and Engine Rally, held on the showground at Killatree last Saturday and Sunday, enjoyed fine weather and was as usual a great success attracting hundreds of visitors and exhibitors, writes Christine Williams. Throughout the two days there were parades and demonstrations in the arena with an always-entertaining commentary provided by Mike Johns. These days because of the expense involved steam engines are a rare sight at the show although a Burrell Road Loco Rallied with Thresher had made its way from Crediton. The 100 cars ranged from a 1911 Model T Ford owned by Paul Mackarel, of Hartland, to gleaming Jaguars and American limousines. A 1920 Model T truck once owned by Cornwall County Council inside which were found tickets for the Saltash steam ferry priced 1/6 also featured among the commercial vehicles. There was a good number of military vehicles, mostly American trucks, jeeps and motorcycles, some, which had played vital roles in the Second World War.
