THIS year the 30th annual Holsworthy Vintage Rally was held over the weekend of June 25 and 26, and, true to its original purpose, raised money for local charities, writes Christine Williams.
As a result, last Wednesday evening, September 14, at the White Hart Hotel a total of £1,750 was shared out between five local good causes.
Kathleen Forfitt, chairman of the rally committee, presented cheques for £450 to Allan Jones, Provincial Grand Primo for North Devon province of the RAOB, whose chosen charity this year is the Epilepsy Society, to Anne Jose of Holsworthy Day Companions, the successor of the Day Centre, and a cheque for £200 to Karen Hemmings, a volunteer at Holsworthy Youth Club.
A cheque for £200 was also presented to the Holsworthy Army Cadets the next day and a cheque for £450 is being sent to Holsworthy Hospital for its renal unit. The recipients expressed their thanks and briefly stated how the money would be used.
Afterwards, at the annual meeting, Colin Martin was thanked for his 24 years as rally president.
Kathleen Forfitt agreed to continue as chairman for the time being, Peter Fry continues as treasurer but there is still a vacancy for secretary.
Indeed Kathleen has appealed for more people to join the committee, which meets on the second Wednesday of every month.
