HOLSWORTHY Primary School has been announced as the latest winner of RGB Building Supplies’ Well Built Community Fund, following a public vote.

Up against Kingsmead School in Wiveliscombe and Weir Quay Community Water Sports Hub Club in Yelverton, Holsworthy Primary School came out on top and now has £1,000 to spend at RGB’s Holsworthy branch.

The primary school is developing its outside education facility and offers weekly ‘Wild Tribe’ sessions to all pupils. The learning encourages an understanding of plants, trees, animals and biodiversity, but at present the grounds of the school cannot be used all year round. Therefore, the school will be using the money to purchase materials to create a series of pathways to link all the outdoor learning facilities, so they can be used during wet weather and be accessible to all pupils, as well as other projects.

Tim Salvadori, headteacher at Holsworthy Primary School, said: “The Wild Tribe lessons are extremely popular. They enable the pupils to experience the world beyond the classroom, which positively helps with their personal development. The lessons have been set up and are run by Mrs Thompson and she has a lot of exciting ideas. A huge thank you to everyone that voted for us and to RGB Building Supplies for the donation; it will certainly help us to expand our outdoor learning facilities.”

Les Ellender, branch manager at RGB Holsworthy, added: “Congratulations to Holsworthy Primary School. It was great to visit and see the children learning to build a tent as part of a Wild Tribe lesson — they were all enjoying the session and looked determined to succeed. I look forward to returning to see how the school has used the Community Fund donation.”
