RUNNERS in Camelford have undertaken a pre-Christmas challenge.

A final achy-legged, one-mile run on the last day of November saw the conclusion of Camelford Up and Running’s #MOVEmber Challenge, with 132 miles completed in November for the group’s co-founder Matt Allan and 40 miles for his wife Sam. They both also managed to run at least one mile every single day of the month.

As co-founder of Camelford Up and Running, Matt felt a ‘little pre-Christmas challenge is just what was needed to keep us motivated to run during this damp and dark time of year’.

Approximately 28 members took on the challenge to run a certain distance throughout November and so the #MOVEmber Challenge was born.

Ranging from ten miles for some newer and younger runners, to a whopping 150 miles for the more advanced, runners could be seen every day running around Camelford and neighbouring villages to clock up their totals.

Children as young as eleven took part. Matt’s daughter Hollie (11) clocked up an amazing 20 miles, while her friend Millie Holman (12, from Camelford) ran regularly throughout the month. Matt’s niece Brooke Gettings (14, from Delabole) ran eleven miles and his nephew Tom Pickard (13, from Delabole) ran an amazing 30 miles, including two runs home from school in Camelford back to Delabole!

Amazing effort was put in by all that took part, including good friends and ‘absolute non-runners’ Beth Morgan and Rebecca Toy from Camelford.

They both ran regularly in all weathers throughout the month and as they approached the end of the month, they managed to run a complete mile without stopping. Beth and Rebecca’s partners Paul and Dan even had a go at a mile to see what all the fuss was about — although neither have ran since!

Debbie Gregory from Elixir Health Foods also earned herself a medal by running throughout the month too.

Matt said: “We at Camelford Up and Running would like to personally thank our friends Debbie and Neil from Elixir Health Foods Wadebridge who heard about our challenge and very kindly sponsored us all medals for our achievements and gave us all a healthy gift from their lovely health food shop.”
