THE members of Plastic Free Camelford came together recently to discuss going forward with their mission to make Camelford more sustainable.
The group met on Wednesday, November 7 to come up with their next steps in spreading awareness of the dangers and damage single-use plastics can cause.
On Monday, November 12, the group went along to the Rainbows and Brownies’ session to launch their #PlasticFreeXmas Christmas challenge, which includes promoting 14 sustainable ways to avoid single-use plastics.
Christmas generates a vast amount of plastic so the group is encouraging people to think about the presents they buy, how they bring them home, what they wrap them in, the cards they send, Christmas decorations and more.
It is hoped that as people tick off a challenge, they will take photographs and put them on the group’s Facebook page to inspire others.
A collection of litter pickers ordered by Camelford Town Council also recently arrived, so a litter pick was held on Sunday, November 25, meeting at the bandstand.
The group is also in the process of designing a ‘pledge card’, which will be distributed to local businesses and shops asking them to make a new year’s resolution to remove three pieces of plastic from their establishments.
