A PLANNING application has been submitted for the demolition of a hotel in Bude.

The application, which has been submitted to Cornwall Council, has laid out plans to demolish the An Mor Hotel in Bude and replace it with retirement living apartments.

The site, which sits on Hartland Terrace, overlooks Summerleaze Beach car park.

The application, made by Churchill Retirement Living, plans to implement 39 retirement living apartments including communal facilities, car parking and landscaping in place of the current building.

In the application's community involvement statement, the applicant explains: “The hotel is no longer a viable proposition for its owner and has therefore been advertised for disposal since spring 2023.

“The proposed development would provide approximately 39 apartments alongside an internal Owner's Lounge and coffee bar as well as high quality external amenity space designed for passive exercise and the visual enjoyment of residents. The proposals will also provide car parking as well as secure cycle and mobility scooter parking.

“As a site within a five-minute walk in Bude town centre, we believe the site will make the perfect location for a new retirement community, which will meet the local need for specialist housing for older people as well as positively contribute to the local economy by bringing additional footfall and expenditure to local shops and services.”

The applicant also lays out their aims for the site, explaining: “Churchill Retirement Living’s vision for the site is to deliver a development that meets our customers’ needs and the local need for retirement apartments whilst also contributing to the character of this part of Bude, and making a positive contribution locally in terms of socio, economic and environmental benefits.”
