A PILOT scheme, aimed at easing fears surrounding the transition between primary and secondary school, has been set up at Sir James Smith's Community School, Camelford.
The scheme, organised by headteacher at St Breward and St Teath primary schools Lee Bacchus and delivered by James Gage of Hays Education, has also been developed to enable pupils to recognise their skills and qualities and to realise the need for these in their future life.
To help prepare them for secondary school life they took part in activities such as mind-mapping, role play and discussion work. They also explored and dispersed some of the myths surrounding the move from Year 6 in primary school to Year 7 in secondary school — and ways in which these myths can be overcome.
Around 21 Year 6 pupils took part in the morning session and about 26 in the afternoon session. The vast majority of these will start their secondary education at Sir James Smith's School in September.
The primary schools involved were St Teath, St Breward, Port Isaac, Boscastle, Tintagel and Otterham, while the session was funded by Sir Jim's and the North Cornwall Activities Network.
