IN MEMORY of his late father, Trevor Grills, a singer with the Fisherman’s Friends, Paul Grills took on the London Marathon to raise money for a charity his father was heavily involved with.
Paul, 30, assistant head teacher at Epsom and Ewell High School, Surrey, managed to complete the marathon in a time of 3 hours 34 minutes — beating his initial goal of under four hours.
Trevor sadly lost his life in an accident three years ago while touring with the Port Isaac band. At the time of his death, Trevor was ambassador of the Cornwall learning disability charity, the Brandon Trust.
Growing up, Trevor’s brother John had Down’s Syndrome and it made him really appreciate the work organistions like the Brandon Trust do every day.
The money Paul raised from sponsorship totaling £6,131.93, with the support of Fisherman’s Friends, will be donated to the trust.
Paul said: “I completed the marathon for the Brandon Trust in memory of my dad Trevor Grills who was an ambassador of the charity. It’s been over three years now since dad’s accident and this seemed like a great way to remember him and raise some money for a great cause which dad supported.
“Donations amounted to over six thousand (nearly seven) which is a great. I know the trust will really benefit and I was proud to run for them in memory of my dad.”
