PARAMEDICS were called to the Teignbridge Council election count at Newton Abbot racecourse this afternoon when Ashburton town council independent candidate Alan Hitchcock fell down steps just outside the counting hall.
Count staff were able to rush to his aid and make him comfortable while an ambulance was called.
Paramedics arrived on scene just after 2pm to treat Mr Hitchcock who was conscious but unable to get up.
A council spokesman said: 'Staff at the count reacted very quickly.
'They were able to call an ambulance, make him comfortable and give him first aid before the ambulance crew arrived within minutes.'
