DUE to difficulties assembling enough volunteers, this year’s Holsworthy Vintage Steam Rally was condensed into a one day event held at the Show Field on Sunday, June 30 — but this didn’t stop the organisers holding one of the best attended shows to date.
It is hoped the rally can regain steam next year and return to its traditional two-day show format. Committee member Pam Sillifant told the Post: “The day went very well and was better than expected — there were definitely more people there than we expected. Johnathan Marshall did come along with his beautiful horses and falcons, which I think helped to draw in a bigger crowd too.”
With the rally committee short on volunteers to help make it a two day show they decided not to put any pressure on things this year and just hold ‘a get together’.
Mrs Sillifant said: “We were only having a get together this year rather than a full blown rally because for the last two years we’ve been struggling to get enough helpers.”
However, despite only being a one day rally this year — they sure packed a punch. There was a wide variety of vintage cars, bikes and horticultural vehicles including an International Crawler, with its caterpillar style tracks, and the ever-popular classic Massey Ferguson. There was also the usual refreshments provided, including burgers and ice cream, completing a real family day out.
Mrs Sillifant said the committee have high hopes for next year as many people have already come forward to offer their services: “We will have a two day rally next year hopefully, we have a list of volunteers who have signed up along with our regular volunteers. We’ve got a good committee and top table and everyone that came said ‘please keep the rally going, we do love it’ so hopefully we will be back to full strength next year!”
