AN INVESTIGATION is underway after a Forest brook was polluted with oil.

Signs have been put up around the Oakwood Brook between Bream and Parkend warning dog walkers not to allow their animals to enter the water.

Booms were placed around the brook to ensure the oil did not affect other water courses.

Officials from the Environment Agency were initially sent to investigate the spill last Thursday (June 11).

The agency has also sent in contractors to remove the oil.

A spokeswoman for the Environment Agency said: "We received reports of oil on the Oakwood Brook last week and our officers went out to investigate on Thursday, June 11.

"We returned to the Brook on Friday to put several booms in place to ensure containment of the oil.

"Our officers are on site again today (Monday, June 15) to investigate the cause.

"We are working in partnership with the Forestry Commission and have instructed contractors to remove the oil to ensure there is no further impact on the environment.

"We are unable to comment further until our investigation is complete."
