THE mayor of Camelford has extended thanks to all those who helped deliver the annual senior citizens’ Christmas lunch recently.

The lunch, which was held on Saturday, November 30 and welcomed Camelford’s older residents to have a Christmas lunch, served up by the Brownies, was a ‘lovely’ event, according to Cllr Claire Hewlett, mayor.

She told the meeting of Camelford Town Council on Thursday, December 5: “Thank you to everyone who helped. They loved it. It was just lovely, it was really sweet.”

The event was also visited by Santa, who looked suspiciously alike to Cllr Hewlett’s deputy mayor, Cllr Rob Rotchell.

However, there was something that had not gone unnoticed at the event. Cllr Hewlett said: “Numbers were down this year and we need to figure out why that is, whether we’re not getting the message out very well.”

Adding to this, Cllr Rotchell — who is also Camelford’s Cornwall Councillor — said in his report: “The senior citizens’ lunch — we catered for 50, but we only sold 40 tickets and there was only 36 there on the day. There are many older people out there.”

Town clerk Esther Greig suggested: “Perhaps it needs a re-branding.”
