NORTH Cornwall’s MP has launched a campaign to reinstate one of the area’s only transport routes to London.
Ben Maguire, Liberal Democrat MP for North Cornwall has launched a campaign to save the National Express 503 bus service to the English capital.
At the start of September, the transport provider announced that it would be scrapping its 503 bus service between Penzance and London.
Following the announcement, Mr Maguire has launched a campaign to have the service reinstated, including the creation of a petition.
Speaking to the Post, Mr Maguire said: "The cancellation of the National Express 503 service between London and Penzance is a huge blow to many of my constituents. The online petition we launched, calling for the service to be reinstated, and the overwhelming response shows just how important this route was - particularly those in towns like Launceston, which have no nearby railway station or alternative coach services.
"This cancellation will be a key agenda item in my upcoming meeting with Transport Secretary Louise Haigh, where I'll also be raising other critical transport issues facing Cornwall. I’ll be urging her to consider additional transport routes of all types to be added through towns like Bodmin, Bude, Camelford, Launceston, Padstow, St Columb Major, and Wadebridge, as well as asking the government to take a closer look at ensuring rural areas like North Cornwall are sufficiently connected.”
