AFTER reading the front page article in last week's Review, I watched 'Billy Bragg's' video on YouTube.
This shows the catastrophic effect of the proposed Stowe quarry extension.
It is outrageous that Breedon Aggregates should be allowed to devastate our land in such a callous barbaric desire for profit.
Shame on the responsible individuals at Gloucestershire County Council if this travesty is allowed to proceed.
This situation is not just going to affect the people who live in St Briavels, (although they will benefit from most of the cancerous dust, aren't they lucky?).
This will impact on every man, woman and child who lives in this area.
It behoves everyone who enjoys living here to rise up in protest to this unacceptable proposal.
It should not be the duty of just a few good people – everyone who can write should rise up in arms against this proposal by signing the online petition at rashe.co.uk.
Write to Mark Harper, write to English Heritage, write to the National Trust, write to the Environment Secretary, write to the Royal family, especially Prince Charles, who is an environmental champion and as many influential people and organisations as possible.
It is a good thing that Brian Jones and Jonathon Wright have brought this terrible situation to the public attention. Planning application 14/0119/FDMAJM must not be allowed to succeed.
Apart from the irreversible damage on the delicate environment and pollution of our water courses including the uniquely special Slad Brook and pollution of the River Wye, all our local tourist attractions, local pubs, shops hotels and campsites will lose a substantial part of their tourist incomes because who is going to want to come here to marvel at a 400-acre, 100-foot deep hole in the ground?
There has been a huge amount of correspondence in the local papers regarding damage caused by the boar in the forest.
This damage, which will not only be permanent, places all our concerns over those animals into insignificance.
Is there anyone out there who would stand up and possibly justify to everyone who lives here that this debacle is going to be in any way of benefit to us now and for the people who will be living here in 200 years time? Because this will change the demographic for ever.
