CTC Cornwall will be running three exciting new cycle rides from Launceston town centre on June 14. The two shorter rides will be over Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor. Each ride is approximately 65 miles with around 2,000 metres of climbing.
The 'Dartmoor Dash' ride is mostly over good 'B' roads taking an easily navigated route through Tavistock to Two Bridges, then on to Moretonhampstead for a well-earned break. The return is through Whiddon Down and Okehampton with the final section along the West Devon Drive.
The 'Bodmin Bash' ride heads for Crowdy Reservoir to join cycle route 3 over Bodmin Moor to Wadebridge for a refreshment stop. The return goes through Burlawn to tackle the infamous Bishop's Wood hill then back over Bodmin Moor taking in Mount, St Neot and Minnions and several picturesque views.
For those who want more, the 'Two Moors Challenge' takes in both the 'Bodmin Bash' and the 'Dartmoor Dash' as a single 130 mile ride. This event is not to be taken lightly and is intended for experienced long distance riders. But if you want a real 'hard-nut' challenge, it's there for the taking.
All rides are run under Audax UK regulations and qualify for distance and altitude points with Audax UK. Audax rides are timed events, but results and placings are not published - your time is your own personal achievement.
You don't have to be a CTC or Audax member to take part, though if not, there will be a supplement for ride insurance. Being non-profit events, entry fees are low, being £3.50 for the shorter rides and £5.00 for the long ride. This includes some refreshments at the ride HQ. Riders entering on the day will have to pay a small supplement to cover the additional costs of last-minute entries.
