USUALLY echoing to Wesley’s hymns and the strains of the organ, Bodmin Street Methodist Church in Holsworthy hosted a change of musical mood with the visit of the Singing for Fun group from Bradworthy.
These lively ladies, led by Shirley Davis, and dressed in patriotic colours for coronation week, were the guests of the Bodmin Street Thursday Friendship Group, who weren’t allowed to escape some audience participation.
The tuneful programme featured a host of classics; Over the Rainbow, Amazing Grace, Big Spender, Cabaret, the Lambeth Walk, Daisy, Daisy, Rivers of Babylon, Morningtown Ride, Sloop Jon B, Annie’s Song, King of the Road – and Lord of the Dance.
It all proved that singing is fun! The afternoon was rounded off with tea and cakes and the singing of the National Anthem, and Happy Birthday to Mrs Davis, who enjoyed a special birthday cake made by Bude and Holsworthy Methodist Circuit pastoral worker Michelle Hogarth.
The Thursday Friendship Group meets in the Bodmin Street Blue Room or chapel hall, from 2pm to 3.30pm, where everyone is welcome to come and share a cup of tea or coffee, a slice of cake and a chat.
Guest speakers are regularly planned for alternate Thursdays, and on the other Thursdays, the group holds games and quiz afternoons. There is no charge, but donations are appreciated towards expenses.
