ALMOST £3,000 has been raised at an open garden event near the Camel River.

Rosie Jackson, president of Cornwall British Red Cross, opened her garden at Hellandbridge in aid of the charity.

More than 300 people went along on a Sunday afternoon. The gardens included a new river walk along the banks of the Camel River and the pottery studio — and everyone was able to walk under the arches of the ancient Helland Bridge, which was 600 years old this year.

Rosie said: "I would like to thank everybody who helped to make it such a special occasion for British Red Cross Open Garden — volunteers, friends, committee members plus all the local stall holders, tea ladies making scrumptious cream teas, the Punch and Judy, which was great fun for the children and the adults.
