MP Sheryll Murray has carried out a survey amongst Callington residents to find out their views on a dog exercise area. 

The MP got involved in the discussion after meeting Cllr Penny Ward on her doorstep while out canvassing. 

Callington Town Council said it was not informed that the survey would be taking place – but it has nonetheless encouraged local people to give their feedback to the questionnaire. 

Of 2,000 people given copies of the survey, 219 replied, with 52% of those respondents saying they owned a dog. 

50% said that part of the Launceston Rd ground should be fenced off for dogs, 10% said the whole park should be open to dogs, and 40% said that dogs should not be allowed there whatsoever. 

Just over half of those who replied said that there was not enough enforcement of the current dog ban. 

Mrs Murray said: “I would like to thank the people of Callington and Kelly Bray for returning the Dog Exercise Survey which I delivered with some of my team.  I’m sorry that we did not get to every door but I did ask people to contact me if they had not received one.  

“I have shared the results with the Town Council and hope that they will assist any future debate within that forum, and assist in any decision making which is within the remit of Callington Town Council.”
