MOTORISTS face potential delays following the announcement of a series of closures to bridges around the area.
The old Wye bridge at Chepstow closed on Tuesday (April 14) for 13 weeks, for works that had been originally slated for last year, but which have been postponed twice. The work, which last year was estimated at around £500,000, is being jointly paid for by Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire county councils.
Meanwhile, both of the Severn bridges are facing closures too, for maintenance.
The Second Severn Crossing will be closed westbound this Saturday (April 18) from 10pm until 6am, and there will be lane closures overnight on Thursday and Friday (April 16 and 17) of this week, repeated next Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23. The works will be taking place from 10pm until 6am.
The original Severn Bridge will be closed heading into England Friday to Monday (April 17 to 20)- from 10pm to 6am. This will be repeated the following weekend, Friday April 24 until Monday April 27.
There are also reports that there are to be a series of small roads closed around the Kerne Bridge and Goodrich areas on the Herefordshire border, over the coming weeks. Motorists are advised to check the Herefordshire County Council website or commercial traffic news website providers such as the AA.
