“With a love of singing” — not the actual title of one of the items in the joint concert of both the Sterts Singers and Launceston Male Voice Choir but it could easily have been.
More than 60 singers performed together at their recent joint concert in Launceston’s Central Church.
The choirs did combine though to sing the Anthem from Chess, conducted by Stert’s musical director Jane Warwick.
A spokespserson said: “What impressed the audience most was the wide range of secular and theatrical musical items that both Jonathan Mann, Launceston’s musical director and Jane Warwick had assembled.”
The event had been planned originally for May 2020, but the COVID pandemic prevented it.
So, both choirs were determined to make it a memorable evening’s entertainment, and thus it proved. Indeed, a return concert has already been planned for the near future.
The choir’s own charity — the Children’s Hospice South West —has now been sent a total of more than £150 as a result of the generosity of the donations via the retiring collection.
The spokesperson added: “The choir would like to express their thanks to all for this.”
The Launceston Choir have a busy schedule of concerts and events at which they are singing for the remainder of 2022.
Many engagements are already booked for next year, including a visit from the famous Marazion Appollo Choir, and also the Choir will be singing at a special concert in the main Torquay Methodist Church.
