LOCAL author Kate Leeves has released her second children's book in the Mischievous Mabel series, which chronicles the adventures of a cheeky border terrier.
Kate, who works in Launceston and writes under her full name, Catherine Leeves, published the series debut two years ago, based on the antics of her friend's border terrier puppy, Mabel. Now, she has completed the sequel, which sees the fictional Mabel and her owners travel further afield to Portugal on a motor home trip.
She hopes that Mabel's newest adventure will foster a love of reading and learning and encourage them to try new activities, such as baking - something she enjoyed as a child. With this in mind, she has included a recipe for "pothole cupcakes" within the story.
"I would love to encourage children to enjoy books in any format because these days you can buy a paperback, Kindle edition, etc. The possibilities are endless. You never stop learning...You never, ever stop learning,” said Kate.
Kate has kept the possibility of a third book open, adding that completing a Mischievous Mabel trilogy would be a "golden dream."
"Who knows what will happen next? Who knows what Mabel is going to get up to. The possibilities are endless," Kate added.
